An American Tail: The Mystery of the Night Monster 2000

Plot
Set in between the third film (Late 1880s) and second film (1892), Fievel, his friend, Tony and his sister, Tanya all get jobs at the local newspaper, where the audience is introduced to Nellie, who wants to be an important reporter, but only gets small assignments, as if she were a secretary to Reed, the newspaper’s editor.

Throughout the film, Tanya tries to win Reed’s heart, while Tony tries to get noticed by Reed and promoted to a reporter.

Like in the previous movies, where a mouse installation is directly below its human installation counterpart, the newspaper offices the mice work in is directly underneath the newspaper offices the humans work in.

Nellie gets a chance when she is assigned to report mice who disappear overnight into holes that open up on their floor all over New York. Reed makes up a, as Nellie calls it, “so-called monster” that lives under Manhattan and takes mice away during the night to add more excitement to the otherwise unimportant story, intending to sell more papers.

The night monster creates fears among the readers, as could be expected. Fievel begins having nightmares that cause him to lose sleep because of his fear of the monster; the film opens up with Fievel having a dream about being chased by what he thinks the monster looks like.

When, through Tanya, he is assigned the job of following Nellie and drawing up interperatations of what the monster looks like based on witness testimony, this makes his insomnia all the worse.

A particularly suspicious miniature French poodle named Madame Mousey,
who has started living among the mice about this time, appears at every crime scene, claiming to be a fortune teller.

The heroes finally decide to investigate her by means of the “dog council” that meets at Central Park. They also search down one of the holes, which leads directly to a group of cats hiding in the sewers. Also, all the mice that had disappeared are being held in wood cages there, to be sold off to other cats and eaten.

The night monster itself, a mechanic device with ghastly flashing pictures and a circular saw, is revealed in full when it attacks the mice newspaper office and printing press to prevent them from printing the truth, which they had just discovered.

A great chase scene takes place throughout both the mouse and the human newspaper offices. Reed reveals that he was in love with Nellie all along, much to Tanya’s intense dismay.

When all the cats seem to be under control, the “dog council” appears just as they’re regaining consciousness and chase them all away, taking Madame Mousey with them.

The last scene takes place at the beach, where the audience is told that the “dog council” had chosen for the French poodle (who was the mastermind behind the night monster all along) a punishment worse than prison: returning her to her owner.

Mrs. Mousekewitz, Fievel’s mother, surmises saying that now that the mystery has been cleared up, Fievel may finally go to sleep, only to turn around and find him already asleep on the beach towel.

An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island 1998

Plot

The story starts off in a New York setting sometime after the first movie, presumably between 1886 and 1889,

and has Fievel recalling a strange dream in which he and his family went west (a way of dismissing, or forshadowing the second American Tail movie, which underperformed at the box office).

Fievel and Tony discover that an ancient treasure lies underneath Manhattan when snooping around an abandoned subway (the Beach Pneumatic Transit system) and stumbling upon the remains of a dead mouse clutching a treasure map, deciding they must find it with the help of an archaeologist Tony knows: Dr. Dithering, along with fighting five villains as well.

The movie focuses on the relationship between the over-exploited workers of a sweatshop (in this case, a cheese production line) and the factory’s rich owners: Mr. Grasping (Ron Perlman), Toplofty (Tony Jay) and O’Bloat (Richard Karron). It also focuses on the plight of the Native Americans in the United States.

The treasure under Manhattan turns out to be a group of Lenape mice living a long distance beneath the surface (far below the sewers, riding in an underground pressurized train) that decided to hide when they saw how the first Europeans only brought war and disease with them and didn’t want to wait for the European mice to do the same to them.

An emotional scene ensues when Fievel must struggle with how cruel his own people the Europeans were (and still are at the time the film takes place) to the natives of America.

The sachem decides to send his daughter, Cholena, to the surface to see if they have “changed their ways.” Upon their return, Scuttlebutt (one of the members of the expedition to find the treasure) reports to the villains unbeknownst to the rest of the members of the expedition, who then decide to use this to their advantage.

They tell all the workers of the sweatshop about Cholena (obviously not by name) and that she is their enemy.

The mouse NYPD Chief, McBrusque (Sherman Howard) and McBrusque’s henchman/Dr. Dithering’s associate, Scuttlebutt (John Kassir), who also report to the villains, engage in a bout of police brutality, burning down “every mouse house and rat hole” until they find her.

After the angry mouse mob try to capture Cholena and anyone else involved with her, Fievel and his friends decide to take Cholena back underground, but the police find out and go after them. Meanwhile, everyone finds out about Dr. Dithering’s friendship with the Indian and take him to the butcher shop for his punishment.

Papa tells everyone about how madness like this is why they all left for America and should work together to become friends with those different from them as the fellow Americans they are. Upon returning Cholena to her home and telling the chief what is happening, he gives them a bomb to collapse the tunnel connecting the Native Americans to the outside world. This floods it, together with the evil McBrusque and Scuttlebutt as they fall into a pit.

The movie ends with Fievel’s papa forming a worker’s union and the villains agreeing amongst themselves to negotiate “with that riff-raff” because otherwise, they’ll go on strike and make them go bankrupt while Tiger the cat, who is now the new police chief, watches them.

The last scene is Fievel seeing, through a foldable telescope, Cholena and her father disappearing into a hidden door at the foot of a statue, which pleases Fievel.

An American Tail: Fievel Goes West 1991

Plot

Several years after settling in to their new home in The Bronx, New York, the impoverished Mousekewitz family soon finds that conditions are not as ideal as they had hoped, as they find themselves still struggling against the attacks of mouse-hungry felines. Fievel spends his days thinking about the wild west dog-sheriff Wylie Burp, while his sister, Tanya, dreams of becoming a singer. Meanwhile, Tiger’s girlfriend Miss Kitty leaves him to find a new life out West, tired of the life of an alley cat, and remarking that perhaps she’s looking for a cat that is “more like a dog.”

Back in the alleys, a regal feline named Cat R. Waul devises a plan to deliver the mice into his clutches. He first launches a full-scale cat attack to drive all the mice to the sewers, specifically ordering his fellow cats to not eat any of them. Using a mouse-cowpoke marionette, he then entices the neighborhood mice, including the Mousekewitzs, into moving to a better life out west (“Way Out West”). Tiger chases the train, trying to catch up with his friends, but is thrown off course by a pack of angry dogs.

While on the west-bound train, Fievel wanders into the livestock car, where he overhears the cats revealing their plot to turn them into “mouse burgers.” After being discovered, Fievel is thrown from the train by Cat R. Waul’s hench-spider, T.R. Chula, landing the mouse in the middle of the desert. The Mousekewitzes are heartbroken once again over the loss of Fievel and arrive at Green River with heavy hearts.

Upon arrival at Green River, the Mousekewitzs begin to find a suitable home, positive that their son Fievel would find them once again. Papa helps his family set up a home under an old water tower, explaining while other mice would scamper for a land to live in, a smart mouse would live closer to water in the dusty country. However, Chula soon blocks up the water tower, drying up the river. Cat R. Waul approaches the mice and proposes to build a better community where cats and mice can live together in peace. Meanwhile, Fievel is wandering aimlessly through the desert, as is Tiger, who has found his way out west as well, and the two pass each other.

However, each one figures that the other is a mirage and they continue on their separate ways. Tiger is captured by mouse Indians and hailed as a god.
Fievel is picked up by a hawk and dropped over the mouse Native American village when fireworks scare and explode on the bird, making his feathers pop out of his body and reunites with Tiger. Tiger chooses to stay in while Fievel catches a passing tumbleweed, which takes him to Green River.

As soon as Fievel makes his arrival, he quickly reunites with his family. He then tries to expose Cat R. Waul’s true intentions. However, the mice inhabitants are already inspired by Cat R. Waul’s visions and are convinced that the cats in Green River are good. Inside a saloon that is under construction, Fievel once more learns of the cats’ real plan before he is discovered. He confronts Cat R. Waul and is almost eaten in the process. However, he happens to hear Tanya, Fievel’s older sister, singing while working and is enchanted by her voice (“Dreams to Dream”).

An American Tail 1986

Plot

In 1885 Shostka, Russia, the Mousekewitzes— a Russian-Jewish family of mice —decide to immigrate to the United States after an army of cruel cats that belong to the Cossacks (a reference to actual pogroms occurring in Russia at the time) destroy their village. During the trip overseas, the family’s young son, Fievel, gets separated from the others and washes overboard in a storm. They arrive sadly in America, believing they’ve lost their son.

Fievel, however, floats to America in a bottle and, after a pep talk from a French pigeon named Henri, embarks on a quest to find his family. He is waylaid by conman Warren T. Rat, who gains his trust and then sells him to a sweatshop. He escapes with Tony, a street-smart Italian mouse, and they join up with Bridget, an Irish mouse trying to rouse her fellow mice to stand up to cats. When a gang of some cats called the Mott Street Maulers attacks a mouse marketplace, the immigrant mice learn that the tales of a no-cat country is not true.

Doctor Strange – The Sorcerer Supreme

Plot
Dr. Stephen Strange is one of the most gifted surgeons in medicine, however, he is also highly arrogant and dismissive of his colleagues. While driving home from the hospital one night, he notices Baron Mordo and his allies slaying a monster – notable because they are hidden from view by one of Wong’s spells.

An unbelieving Strange dismisses it as stress-related hallucination. The next day, he is visited by the hospital’s administrator Oliver who states that Dr. Gina Atwater has problems with him. He then speaks with Dr. Atwater and discusses her case of a child — one of many — who is suffering from dangerous nightmares.

Seeing the children causes Stephen to flashback to when his sister April had a headache similar to the ones the children have been having.
The conversation also reveals that the two doctors have had a romantic relationship in the past. When touching one child, he sees an image of a demonic skull-face laughing while engulfed in flames and promptly leaves, telling Gina that there is nothing he can do for the children.

The Penguins of Madagascar – Operation Blowhole

Plot
Private tells Marlene, Mason, and Phil of a past encounter that he and the other penguins had had with the evil dolphin Dr. Blowhole, but Marlene does not believe his tale. He tries to then show her a file on the mission, but is stopped by Skipper initially before Marlene begins to look at the documents and is unimpressed by them. Julien then comes by, telling everybody that he “is” to be a spy. Soon after, the zoo opens for the day and the animals disperse to their respective habitats.

Mort is soon seen to be bound by seaweed, and Julien is seen being taken away by an unknown creature; it is soon revealed that Dr. Blowhole had been spying on the penguins, and he appears to the penguins on their TV, informing them that he had captured Skipper’s “best friend,” Julien, and that he will “sleep with the fishes” if they try to interfere with his plans.

Skipper then insists that he is not best friends with Julien, but that rescuing the lemur is in order, as such is “the penguin way.”
The penguins soon determine the location of Dr. Blowhole’s lair, Coney Island, and set off for it in the air using soda bottle jet packs. Before they arrive, Julien begins sucking-up to Dr. Blowhole, suggesting that they can work together, and when the penguins do arrive, they are soon captured.

Dr. Blowhole then reveals to them his plan to use a sinister device to melt ice in the North Pole in order to flood the Earth as a form of payback to the humans who had made him perform tricks through a ring of fire. Skipper vows to stop him, but Dr. Blowhole reveals that he has an army of lobsters that will fight against Skipper and his men. Eventually, Dr. Blowhole’s “Ring of Fire” is activated, and Kowalski inadvertently keeps turning up its heat output whilst trying to deactivate it.

Julien then reveals to the penguins and Dr. Blowhole that he is a double agent – “a good guy spy” – and proceeds to press the correct button to turn off Dr. Blowhole’s contraption. Defeated, Dr. Blowhole escapes the lair inside of a giant bubble, swearing further revenge in the future. Once the group gets back to the zoo, Julien tells Marlene of the mission, but she still thinks that it is far-fetched and does not believe it. Skipper then makes Julien an “honorary penguin” for his efforts during the mission.

The Secret World of Arrietty English Dub

Plot

The story takes place in 2010 in Koganei, western Tokyo and like the novel revolves around a group of “tiny people” who are 10 cm tall and live under the floorboards of a typical human household.

A boy named Shō arrives at the house his mother lived in as a child, to live with his great aunt Sadako. When Shō leaves the car, he sees a cat trying to attack something in the bushes, but the cat leaves after being attacked by a crow. Shō goes to see what the cat was trying to attack. He then sees a Borrower named Arrietty.

That night Arrietty’s father Pod takes Arrietty above the floorboards to show her how he gets sugar. Their first stop is the kitchen, then they walk within a wall to reach a dollhouse in Shō’s bedroom, to get tissue. Before Arrietty and Pod can leave, Arrietty notices Shō is awake, and accidentally drops the sugar cube they got. Shō tells them not to be afraid of him.
Te next day, Shō leaves the dropped sugar cube beside an underground air vent where he first saw Arrietty, but Arrietty’s mother Homily warns them not to take it because their existence must be kept secret from humans. Still, Arrietty sneaks out to visit Shō in his bedroom, and the two become friends. On her return, Arrietty is intercepted by her father. Pod and Homily realize they have been discovered, and decide the family must move out of the house.

Shō learns from Sadako that his ancestors have seen Borrowers in this house, and they had the dollhouse made especially for the Borrowers, with working electric lights and ovens. However, the Borrowers had not been seen since, and the dollhouse stayed in Shō’s room. Shō uncovers the floorboards above the Borrower household, uproots their kitchen and replaces it with the kitchen from the dollhouse.

Pod returns injured from a borrowing mission, helped by Spiller, a Borrower boy he met on the way. Spiller suggests some places the Borrowers can move to, and, after he recovers, Pod goes to check them out. Arrietty goes to say goodbye to Shō. During their subsequent conversation Shō theorises that the Borrowers are becoming extinct, which hurts Arrietty. Apologising, Sho reveals he has had a heart condition since birth, and will have an operation in a few days. The operation does not have a good chance of success.

Meanwhile Haru, Sadako’s maid, notices the floorboards have been disturbed. While Sadako is out, Haru locks Shō in his room, unearths the Borrowers’ house and puts Homily in a jar in the kitchen. Haru calls a pest removal company to smoke out the Borrowers and bring them to her alive. When Arrietty returns to find Homily missing and their house disturbed, she goes to Shō for help. Arrietty helps Shō break out of his locked room, Shō then carries Arrietty to the kitchen and distracts Haru while Arrietty rescues Homily. Sadako returns soon after the pest removal company comes, and tells them to leave.

Haru tries to prove to Sadako the Borrowers really exist, but Homily has escaped, and there is nothing below the floorboards: The Borrowers have already set off on their move, and Shō has destroyed the remains. The Borrowers stop for dinner during their move, and Shō’s cat spots Arrietty. The cat brings Shō to Arrietty. He gives her a sugar cube as a parting gift, and tells her the Borrowers’ fight for survival has given him hope to live through the operation, which will happen in two days’ time. In return, Arrietty gives Shō her hairclip. The Borrowers then go into a teapot, which Spiller steers down a river.
